(Delayed) Sunday Smiles

Ahoy, lovelies.  It’s been half term for me so I’ve been busy, busy, busy. Before I knew it we are on Monday. I’m lucky enough that I have an Inset today, at home, to write reports. Luckily I’m over 2/3 done so I should have a bit of time to do other thing, hurray.

My Sunday Smiles

It was my parent’s 25th Wedding anniversary so we went to Wales to have a party. It’s always wonderful as it means we get to see lots of members of the family that I don’t normally see as I live so far away.

Whilst there I had a drastic hair cut. I had at least 10cm chopped off. Bet my kids still won’t notice, my sister certainly didn’t!

We were only there for a few days so we only managed to fit in climbing up Pen-y-Crug. It’s not too high (a bit of research tells me it’s 331m) and at the top are banks where there once stood a hillfort.

IMG_20180603_161652_936When I arrived ‘home I found my wedding album and my Illumicrate!  You can see what’s inside of it in my Instagram.

We also booked our honeymoon to Thailand! I’ve never been out of Europe so I’m very excited! We’re staying in Bangcock for 3 days and then going to Phuket for 7 days. If you have any suggestions of what we should do please let us know! I’ve already booked in the Elephant Sanctuary, where you get to wash and feed the elephants (no riding). I’ll probably avoid the tiger sanctuary as I’ve not heard great things – but people are more like to post negative rather than positive, so if you’ve been and you know what it’s actually like, please let us know!

We’re in May and the sun has finally decided to show it’s face. Hurrah! It’s be absolutely glorious this weekend. We decided last minute to go into central London on yesterday and have lunch and cocktails next to the Thames. Then we wandered to Forbidden Planet. They didn’t have the books we wanted so we consolidated ourselves by having liquid nitrogen ice cream from Chin Chin Labs. I love that they’ve opened up a new(ish) store in Soho as it means I don’t have to weave my way through the crowds of Camden.

We went to a quiz yesterday run by our school’s PA. The Quiz Master also writes questions for TV programmes like Pointless, so it’s always brilliant and completely packed.

This years theme was Fun and Games so all the rounds were named after different board games and the answers would like to the game. Eg. Battleships (the odds were also names of battles and evens were also names of famous ships), Card games (all linked to suits and games that you can play with cards) and Operation (all contained body parts). It’s incredibly clever and lots of fun.

Questions included things like:

Operation – all answers will contain a body part

1.This tea is named after a Prime minister.

2. The 33rd element on the periodic table.

Card Games

3. Meghan Markle is an actress in this TV series.

4. Heath Ledge received an Oscar for this role.

5. A fictional detective in the 1930’s novel The Maltese Falcon.

I haven’t done a Sunday Smiles in a few weeks, with very good reason… Two weeks ago I got married! We were really lucky as although it was rather cold, it stayed dry all day.

We then went to Iceland for our honeymoon (read about it here). Then as it is a magical holiday, we went to my happy place, the most magical place of them all… Harry Potter studio tour! You know it’s bad when I’ve been more times than some of the employees (this was my 4th visit).

As our wedding was very small, only immediate family and best friends, we then had a big party for the rest of our family this weekend. We had a live band, hog roast and a Harry Potter wedding cake!

My colleagues completely caught me unawares and and did a surprise bridal party in the staff room, which was absolutely lovely!

The season of weddings began yesterday, after one of my university friends got married. It was a wonderful day and best of all, it stayed dry! She’s from South Africa so they served South African food – which was incredible. Then followed it up by a barn dance, which was lots and lots of fun.

It’s been half term for me this week. I’m aware that I’ve been neglecting my blog quite a lot recently and had every intention of updating it with reviews and what not. However, that has clearly not happened. I didn’t even log my laptop on this week, that’s how busy I’ve been. I also haven’t even picked up a book (I know!)

So what have I been doing this week? I’ve been sorting out a ton of stuff for my wedding because pretty much everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Most recently, the place that I was meant to be having a meal at on the day closed down suddenly and my sister’s mum is unable to make the wedding as she’s having an opp (completely understandable!) but I fear this means that now my sister might not be coming for my wedding. So I’ve started this week pretty stressed! So I’ve managed to blitz through a load of things, finalising the bridesmaid’s dresses, sorting out the flowers, visiting the venue for the party, sorting out a hog roast for the party, sending out final invitations, buying things for decorations and finding a new venue for our meal. So, not much!

I have this bright idea, which will probably go completely wrong, to have the table decorations made out of books. We’ve bought second hand copies of our favourite books (Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings) and I’ve had a go at making heart confetti and paper roses. I’m pretty happy with how they’ve turned out so far but we’ll see if I’m still saying that after I’ve made hundreds of the things!

Finally, before we went away we just introduced our two gerbils together. I was really nervous about leaving them alone just incase they turned. Luckily we arrived home to this adorable sight.

I don’t know about you but I’ve had a wonderful week!

I had my Performance Management observation on Monday, which I was obviously dreading, but ended up having a brilliant observation! So that was a great start to the week.

It was my birthday on Friday and I was absolutely spoilt rotten. My parents got me a freaking helicopter ride! How incredible is that!?! We went out for drinks and my bestie came around.

Then yesterday we went to see Book of Mormon. I’ve been wanting to see it for ages but it has to be booked quite far in advance as it’s usually sold out. With very good reason. It was absolutely brilliant! It was not at all what I was expecting. It was hilarious and rude and crude.

It’s been half term! Woo! I did absolutely no work this week, which has been absolute bliss but I’m definitely regretting it today. 5 hours later and I’m just about done!

We booked to go away to Edinburgh for a few days, which was very lovely – you can see everything I did here. Highlights were definitely cocktails and food at the Boozy Cow, seeing baby koalas, squirrel monkeys and pandas at the zoo, and the cannon going off at the castle.

You know how last week I said I had been naughty and bought a stupid amount of books? Well, I maaaay have done it again. I’m not even sorry. It was 3 for £10, how can you say no?

I bought Open Very Carefully and Zog and the Flying Doctors for my class. I was also an idiot and went to buy The Lion Inside but accidentally clicked kindle, so now it’s no use to anyone 😦 I also bough Parsnips, Buttered : How to win at modern life one email at a time, The Light Between Oceans, Forensics: The Anatomy of Crime and The Hufflepuff Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Although I’ve bought a stupid amount of books I’ve actually done some reading this week! How Do Dinosaurs Play With Their Friends was not my best purchase, but that’ll teach me for not reading the children’s book before I buy it. I completed Parsnips, Buttered : How to win at modern life one email at a time by Joe Lycett, which was so so funny. I also read Saga and Fables (reviews on Thursday).

Saga Vol. 1 by [Vaughan, Brian]Fables, Volume 1: Legends in Exile (Fables, #1)

A child also made me stifle laughter when they randomly asked “Do you know what boozy means?” When I asked them if they did, they replied with “It means when you’re really really cozy.” How adorable is that?!

My friend’s child also seriously thinks babies are conceived by the man weeing on the bed and the lady sitting in the wee. I really hope they haven’t gone around telling their friends that!
