My Sunday Smiles

So after last week, my bad luck seems to have continued.

“It can’t be that bad” I hear you say? Well… My week started with sister telling me that she can’t make it to our wedding. I haven’t seen her in two years, so I’m pretty unhappy. Next, Daz’s school get the call. The OFSTED call. So I rush over, with lots of goodies in hand, to help them all out. Then my laptop breaks. I’ve tried everything but there’s just no hope, luckily I backed everything up about a month ago so I’ve only lost a few documents. We have to go to two different stores to get the laptop I want, this wasn’t really something bad, we got a bit lost on the way and it was a bit of a panic to make sure we got there in time, but all was well. Then as we’re going back to the flat to set it up, we get stuck in the lift.

It’s just been one of those months!

My Sunday Smiles

It’s been half term for me this week. I’m aware that I’ve been neglecting my blog quite a lot recently and had every intention of updating it with reviews and what not. However, that has clearly not happened. I didn’t even log my laptop on this week, that’s how busy I’ve been. I also haven’t even picked up a book (I know!)

So what have I been doing this week? I’ve been sorting out a ton of stuff for my wedding because pretty much everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. Most recently, the place that I was meant to be having a meal at on the day closed down suddenly and my sister’s mum is unable to make the wedding as she’s having an opp (completely understandable!) but I fear this means that now my sister might not be coming for my wedding. So I’ve started this week pretty stressed! So I’ve managed to blitz through a load of things, finalising the bridesmaid’s dresses, sorting out the flowers, visiting the venue for the party, sorting out a hog roast for the party, sending out final invitations, buying things for decorations and finding a new venue for our meal. So, not much!

I have this bright idea, which will probably go completely wrong, to have the table decorations made out of books. We’ve bought second hand copies of our favourite books (Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings) and I’ve had a go at making heart confetti and paper roses. I’m pretty happy with how they’ve turned out so far but we’ll see if I’m still saying that after I’ve made hundreds of the things!

Finally, before we went away we just introduced our two gerbils together. I was really nervous about leaving them alone just incase they turned. Luckily we arrived home to this adorable sight.

It’s been a full on week this week as I’ve had deadlines, parents evening for two nights, the place I was meant to be having my wedding meal at closed down, and I’ve managed to loose my voice. But there have been lots of positives (like all of those things being over!)

After my little furbaby died a few weeks ago, Aerys was getting lonely so we bought a new gerbil. We’ve finally introduced the two of them this week and they’re good together. Woohoo!

We went around Camden yesterday for a friend’s birthday. What could possibly be better than having liquid nitrogen icecream from Chin Chin Labs, in the pouring rain? Possibly only their hot chocolate, or the hot chocolate from Hotel Chocolate. Yum.

DSC_0057Unfortunately, I don’t have much to smile about this week, especially this weekend. I’ve been ill, it’s been raining and my little furbaby, Harry, passed away.

So, feeling sorry for myself, I’ve been eating chocolate, drinking hot chocolate with squirty cream, and finally watching Big Little Lies. I loved the book so am hoping the TV series is just as good. I didn’t realise Alexander Skarsgård is in it!

This week I was meant to be partaking in Bout of Books. It hasn’t gone anywhere near as well as I was hoping. It’s been a very stressful week during which I’ve been falling asleep about 9. I still have today to go so I will do a full update on it tomorrow.

Despite my draining week, I had a fantastic Saturday. We went to the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea at One Aldwych. It was absolutely incredibly and I would completely recommend it. You have savory sandwiches to begin with, followed by the scrumptious sweets. My highlights were the chocolate tea, flavoured candyfloss, bacon jam and Cocoa bean financiers. Yum! We didn’t have the cocktail Charlie but it did look incredible.

Afterwards, we went to see The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. Image result for harold pinter the birthday partyThe only other Pinter play we’ve seen before is No Mans Land and just like that play, we had very little idea what was going on! Ir’s about Stanley Webber who lives in a run down boarding house by the sea, run y Meg and Petey. Two sinister strangers arrive on Stan’s supposed birthday and they all have a party which turns into a nightmare. The play is one that can’t be taken at face value, with pretty much all the characters contradicting themselves throughout. It’s ambiguous as to what ultimately happens to Stan and what truly happens at the party. I bought the script while I was there and fully intend to read in with the hope that I’ll understand it a bit better!

We also went to the LEGO store and made our own people. Can you guess who they are? (They took ages to make!)

Daz and I have officially been engaged for a year today! After being messed around a lot by our original plan, we finally booked our wedding this week! We cut our plans right back and we’re going to have a very small ceremony in March. Eeeeek!

It’s been half term! Woo! I did absolutely no work this week, which has been absolute bliss but I’m definitely regretting it today. 5 hours later and I’m just about done!

We booked to go away to Edinburgh for a few days, which was very lovely – you can see everything I did here. Highlights were definitely cocktails and food at the Boozy Cow, seeing baby koalas, squirrel monkeys and pandas at the zoo, and the cannon going off at the castle.
