My Sunday Smiles

I don’t know what the weather has been like for you but for me it has been true British summer weather. It’s been chucking it down. It’s been literally bouncing off of the pavements. Luckily, on the days we’ve booked things it has been lovely! Yay!

WP_20170810_005

On Thursday we went to the Hilton hotel by Green Park (oo, fancy) for an afternoon tea and cocktails. It was absolutely scrummy. I just love scones with jam and creme. The tea was so good I drank 3 teapots full and then went on a hunt around London to buy some for myself (Caramel Roiibos).

DSC_0144We also took a day trip to Dover castle. Our poor little car really struggled getting up that hill but we made it! It’s an amazing castle with so much history. I love going through the all the tunnels and we were really lucky that the waiting time for the underground hospital and war tunnels was short. It’s definitely a day trip I would recommend but be prepared for walking up and down a lot of hills! Dover’s really close to where my parents live so afterwards we surprised them by popping in for a cup of tea.

My Sunday Smiles

  • After years of wanting to get into photography but never having the money to buy a DSLR camera, I finally saved up enough to get one! So I’ve spend the week fiddling around with it and testing it out on my gerbils.
  • We went to Whipsnade Zoo! I’ve never been there before because it’s one that you can’t really get to without a car. It’s part of ZSL, the same as London Zoo but it is SO much bigger (apparently the biggest in the UK). We managed to see most of it before the rain started bouncing off of the floor which sent us home bound. I definitely preferred it to London Zoo as the animals had so much more space. During the talks they shared with the audience information on the animals (obviously) but also logos to look out for when you go shopping to help sustainability, including this palm oil one that I’ve never heard of before.

It was also an excuse for me to use my camera again.

My Sunday Smiles

  • Our local MP visited our school this week. I audibly laughed when he asked my shiny faced 5 year olds if they knew about Brexit. We also learnt not to let them ask their own questions that hadn’t been pre-planned as one of them, confident as you like, asked: “What’s the fastest dog in the world?”
  • This time next week I’ll be on my summer holidays, my energy levels are very grateful for that!
  • I had a wonderful meet up with lots of university friends which is always lots and lots of fun!
  • After my reading slump, I’ve completed THREE books this week! (round of applause for me) I just haven’t been motivated to write the reviews for them yet!

We had our annual 3 days of summer this week! It was glorious. Except I was in school.

This weekend it was West End Live in Trafalgar Square, where different old and new musicals showcase a few songs. It was wonderful to see lots of new musicals and add a few to my To Watch list.

My Sunday Smiles

I’ve been on half term this week which means I’ve been able to sleep (yay!), drink (yay!) and do things that I want to do with my days (yaaaay!) So I’ve got lots of smiles for this week.

  • I had a lovely day in London, eating street food in Camden, visiting Forbidden Planet, and seeing my first show in the National Theatre! I went to see Ugly Lies the Bone, which was different to what I was expecting but really, really good! It was a straight run through, with no breaks, and the setting was incredible.
  • My Illumicrate arrived! (My unboxing). It’s a 3 monthly subscription, so I’m always really excited when this arrives. It was a super haul this month too, with my highlights being: two books, a candle and a cute HP keyring.
  • I went to Oxford for the day (my post). We had a completely nerdy bookish day going to the Bodleian Library (where they filmed HP), buying books from Oxford University Print shop and going to the Eagle and Child (drinking grounds of the Inklings).
  • We went to London Zoo at night! ZSL are doing evening events during summer where people walk around in costume, they have food and music. It’s rather lovely without all the children! The animals tend to be more active in the evening too 🙂
  • I completed all my school reports! Hurrah! 30 reports takes an awfully long time to write and I’m pretty sure by the end most of them didn’t really make sense. But they’re completed!

May 2017 Monthly Wrap Up

Monthly Wrap Up (1)

These months are just zooming by. Actually, these years! Congratulations to everyone who finished exams and graduated this month, and good luck to everyone who is sitting them next month. It’s weird to think that this time two years ago I was finishing my degree! Time either needs to slow down or I need to find some more productive things to be doing with my time.

It’s been beautiful sunshine all week! Nothing cheers me up more than lovely weather. (I say as it is now chucking it down). And it’s half term! Hurrah! It really couldn’t have come sooner. I’m very excited to catch up on lost sleep (lets just ignore all those reports I have to write.)

My Sunday Smiles

I have a couple this week!

  1. I had a lovely Saturday in Brighton with some friends, exploring the lanes, eating lots of food and playing mini-golf (which I sucked at).
  2. I had a school trip this week which was actually really nice. It’s always good when you return back to school with the same number of children you left with.
  3. I scared my gerbils and housemates by squealing with delight because I have been granted access to Age of Swords by Michael J Sullivan, who is one of my favourite authors! Meep!
  4. I have a tea subscription and it arrived this week with my favourite fruit tea in – Strawberry and Kiwi. It also has a lovely Chai tea which I can’t wait to try 🙂

I have a couple this week!

  1. Monday was a bank holiday. We were meant to meet up with friends and go for a picnic in a park but the rain scarpered that idea. So instead, we set the picnic blanket up on the floor in the living room and had an indoor picnic instead which was really nice.
  2. I had my performance management this week, which is always a huge relief when it is over. It’s always lovely to get lots of positive feedback, especially when I’ve been feeling low recently.
  3. I was granted access to the ARCs of One of Us is Lying by  Karen M. McManus and The Best of Adam Sharp by Graeme Simsion both of which I am super excited about!

My Sunday Smiles

This week we were meant to have an inset, in another school, with an interactive drama section. Performing in front of other people, especially my peers or people that are older than me, is pretty much my idea of hell. I’ve been ill this week, so I seriously contemplated pretending I was still ill just to get out of it, that’s how much I really didn’t want to do this. But I forced myself to go. I felt like a complete idiot. But you know what? It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. So a pat on the back to me for not bailing!
